Zhen Tao in a catching a flight at the airport

From Quiet Fears to Bold Beginnings: My Journey to the U.S.

July 02, 20253 min read

When people hear “immigration,” they often imagine celebration—tears of joy, parties, cheering at the airport. But for me, when our U.S. visa was approved, I didn’t celebrate.

I felt... still.
Not sad. Not thrilled. Just still.

Because while people around us imagined opportunity, I could only feel the weight of what we were about to leave behind:
Our families. Our language. The daily rhythm of life we understood.

My husband quietly left his job. I packed our lives into suitcases, folding clothes again and again as if I could somehow fold away my doubts too.

Friends came to say goodbye. Some told us we were brave. Others, more cautiously, asked what I had secretly been asking myself:
“What if it doesn’t work out?”
“What if you’re all alone over there?”

I didn’t have answers.
But I had a baby. I had a husband. I had a dream that—though shaken—refused to go away.

The Flight That Changed Everything

The night before we left, my mother didn’t give me a speech.
She packed snacks. A pouch of tea. An envelope of quietly saved money.
And before I walked out the door, she put her hand on my shoulder and said:
“If it doesn’t go well, come home. This will always be your home.”

We flew out before sunrise. The plane lifted into gray skies. My son cried. I stayed awake the whole time, my heart louder than the engine.

When we landed in Los Angeles, everything felt foreign.
We made our way to Denver, where snow met us like a silent test.

I didn’t feel like I had arrived.
I felt like I had been dropped into a new world that hadn’t yet made space for me.

But the plane had landed. And that, ready or not, was the beginning.

From Struggle to Seed

There were times in those early months I felt like I was vanishing—like everything I once knew about myself had been stripped away. No connections. No local experience. No safety net.

But slowly, something changed.

I started learning new skills. I took jobs that were humbling, but honest.
I said “yes” to things I didn’t believe I could do.
And with every quiet act of showing up, I began building something bigger than fear.

That something became Zhen Tao Enterprises.

What began as a woman with no network and barely enough money to register a business… is now a name that stands for transformation, mentorship, and healing.

It’s not just a spa business.
It’s a reminder that every struggle plants a seed.
And if you’re brave enough to keep watering it—even when it’s dark—you just might grow something powerful.

Why I Tell This Story

Because someone, somewhere, is preparing to leave everything familiar behind.
And they need to know:
It’s okay to be scared.
It’s okay to feel small at the beginning.
But you are not weak for starting over.
You are incredibly strong.

My story began with quiet fears and sleepless nights.
Today, it continues with every woman I mentor, every client I welcome, every soul I remind: your beginning doesn’t define your ending.

If you’re in the middle of your “struggle chapter,”
know this:
The success chapter is coming. And it might be bigger than you can imagine.
